How pricing works

No price list. Every house is measured, and the number is written down before we start.

  • What decides the price

Mostly how much house there is to outline. Length and height of the roofline come first, then trees and shrubs, then what we have to plug into.

    • Feet of roofline, and one story or two

    • Trees and shrubs, and how tall

    • Your outlet and timer, or a new one

    • Seasonal strands or a permanent track

  • What the estimate includes, and what it doesn't

The estimate is written and lists each run: front gable, garage line, the maple by the walk. It says how long the price holds. It covers install, service visits through the season and take-down.

    • Includes: install, service visits, take-down

    • Not included: a new outdoor circuit or outlet

    • Not included: gutter or shingle repairs

  • What happens at the visit

A designer measures and photographs the roofline, finds your outdoor outlet and asks what you want lit. If the visit has a fee, the estimate says so and says whether it comes off the job.

  • After hours

We don't do emergency work. A dark section on a Saturday night waits for shop hours, and the estimate says how soon a service visit is booked. Anything that smells hot or sparks is a call to 911 and then to us.

  • When you get the number

A written number comes before anything is ordered or hung. If the plan changes, the change is a new line on the estimate and you agree to it before we start.

The written estimate

Listed by run, not by lump

Each part of the house is its own line, so you can drop the tree and keep the roofline.

The estimate names the strands and clips, the outlet or timer, the service visits and the take-down. It says how long it holds. We send it before anything is ordered.

  • Each run is a line

  • Strands, clips and timers are named

  • Service visits and take-down are on it

Pricing questions

Why no price list?

Two houses on one block can differ by a hundred feet of roofline. A price list would be wrong for one of them.

Can I drop a line from the estimate?

Yes. Each run is its own line, and the total changes with it.

Is the visit fee credited?

The estimate says whether the visit has a fee and whether it comes off the job.

Ready for a number?

Text a photo of the roofline, or pick an install week.
